John G. Esposito, Editor               SUMMER                         2005

A MESSAGE FROM THE LEFT HAND SEAT:

At the 2005 reunion in Portland, the following changes to the Board of Directors became official: Dale Woods relieved Ron Lenhoff as Secretary, Dan Dwyer relieved Bob Nelson as On-line Coordinator, and Ron Novay relieved Gary Gross as Storekeeper.  Ron, Bob and Gary stayed on as Directors. Ron, Bob and Gary have supported the Association and, in so doing, all of us, for many years. They did a great job and deserve our gratitude. BZ.
At the reunion we raffled off some "Two-Turning-Two Burning" ball caps that were generously contributed by Bill Scherbon. At the time, many people asked if we could stock them in our Gear Locker.  Well, again through the good offices of Bill Scherbon, that has now been accomplished. Bill contacted the manufacturer and made arrangements to acquire a supply. Anyone interested in owning one of these great caps, please contact our Storekeeper, Ron Novay.
The 2007 reunion will be held at Hilton Head Island, SC on 7-9 May. Originally, we planned to meet in Savannah, but were unable to acquire suitable facilities. Hilton Head is beautiful, the Holiday Inn is offering us an excellent deal, and we're close to Savannah anyway. Information regarding the reunion will be provided as it's developed.
As most of you are aware, your Board of Directors routinely meets on the years between reunions. This is done in order to complete any necessary Association business that can't wait until the next full business meeting.  The location of the meeting is always at the site of the next reunion. This gives the Board the opportunity to inspect the facilities and review the plans and schedules established by the Reunion Committee.  The 2006 Business meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn on 13 March. All Association members are welcome. Reservations can be made at http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/rates/hbisc?&_GPC=VPI& The Holiday Inn is offering a special room rate of $69.00 per night (plus tax). Be sure to mention the VPB-111/VP-21 Veterans Association in order to get the group rate.
NAS Brunswick has requested that your Association assist in providing it with a biography of one of the Navy's most famous (or infamous, depending on your perspective) officers, VP-21's own LT Irving Glick. So far, over 18 pages have been written. But LT Glick's story is nowhere near complete. Please send in your own Irving Glick stories to Bill Locke so they may be added to this important historical document.

FROM THE RADIO COMPARTMENT:
In the last newsletter, I announced that members could get a copy of the roster for $5.00.  I didn't expect the wonderful response that followed.  After sending dozens of rosters, I then received phone calls and letters of thanks for reuniting old shipmates because of the information that they received.  To those that sent more than the requested $5.00, the extra monies have been sent to our treasurer, Dick Webb, as a donation in your name.
The rosters are still available for your personal use only and not available to anyone outside of our Veteran's Association.
